Now You Ask

Depression, grief, sadness, and pain doesn’t need you to believe in them to exist.

I dreamt of a poem about suicide and thought it important to share.

Mental health is often overlooked. Why? Many believe all you should do is “push forward.” Others believe mental health is a weakness because they feel like a “pushover.” When I hear things against mental health, I genuinely think it is fear. It is scary holding up a mirror and taking a look at yourself.

However, while most want to ignore the importance of mental health, they, and others, are paying for it with their sanity and lives. As we continue to speak against mental health, we continue putting ourselves at risk. Depression, grief, sadness, and pain doesn’t need you to believe in them to exist.

Because our society doesn’t put more importance on mental health, we see increased suicides. When we decide to turn a blind eye toward our pain, we also cannot see others’ pain.

Sometimes, if you can do so, all it takes is asking, “How are you?” or “What do you need from me?” to make someone’s day or save someone’s life.

How can you begin taking care of your mental health?

  • Find a Therapist
  • Meditation
  • Move your body (Yoga, running, walking, cycling, tai chi, weight training)
  • Journaling
  • Breathing techniques
  • Look at your diet – certain foods can cause physical reactions and mood shifts.
  • Get some bodywork.
  • Speak with a health/life coach.
  • Receive healing (reiki, craniosacral therapy, biofeedback).

Taking care of your mental health is a tough business, so going at it alone can feel suffocating. Finding a team (craniosacral therapy, therapist, life coach) to walk you through can help it feel less frightening.
