Only You Have the Power to Disempower You

At a time when things feel completely imbalanced and many heartbreaking things are going on in the world, it is easy to feel disempowered.

It is easy to convince yourself that you have zero power and control. I’m not just speaking on control over things in the world or things outside of ourselves – There is zero control with those things and only working in tandem. 

I’m speaking about control within ourselves. It is so easy to convince ourselves that we are out of control because things around us feel that way. It is easy to convince ourselves that we have zero control when things in power, like our society & politicians, try to convince us that they have the ultimate power. 

But at this time, it is particularly important to remember that that is a lie. It is a lie that you are not empowered and that you are not in control of yourself. 

Someone came to me in the dream and spoke these words, “In the latest hour, ignore the power for it dies out – like a flame blowing out. It is the mystery of the world how one can have power and lose it so quickly. Obtain your true self and power. That is the power that never leaves. As the overpowered diminish, its power will be distributed amongst energies.”

Stay true to yourself and your path. You will see that it is the power that never leaves you. No one can truly take it away from you. They can only convince you that it is gone, and you cancel yourself. So you see, even in that aspect, only you have all of the power to take it away from yourself. 

The only way someone can disempower you is by encouraging you to use your power to do it yourself. Think of how significant that is. 

Continue on your path of learning yourself and loving yourself. And if you have not been on that path, I encourage you to do it now. Understanding where you need to be is your self-power. Understanding yourself is your self-power.

 Doing all of these things will, in turn, balance polarities. It will bring balance amongst us.

The Cost of Self-Betrayal: Why Moving Forward is Important

What you can’t afford is to continue betraying yourself and become forever cemented where you are.

We often build our lives around the expectations of society, family, and friends. 

This in turn can stop us from doing what we feel we need to do. It can stop us from answering our calling, whatever that may be.

I had a dream in which someone told me, “Anyone who’s not on board, leave them at the boarding dock. You can write to them.”

It’s pretty apparent what that means. It’s time to get moving. Do not let the words or actions of other people that you love or care for deeply stop you from walking on your path. 

People will always have a say in what you feel, think, and do. Let them say, but make sure you continue to Do. In the end, it is not them who have to live this life, deal with the challenges, triggers, and face the difficulties of healing. It is you. 

Leave them at the boarding dock; you can always write to them. You can always reach out and speak to that person. 

It can be painful to leave people behind. Even if that relationship is just changing and not ending. It is a grieving time. It is a time that we avoid because it is not easy to get through. 

But what we can do is heal through the change of relationships. We collect our support community, like a therapist, healers, friends, family, and healing hobbies to get us through and gain knowledge. 

What you can’t afford is to continue betraying yourself and become forever cemented where you are.

In some ways, we have all betrayed ourselves. Not going on a trip, not taking the job, not being in that relationship, not leaving the relationship, not speaking up, etc. 

We all know the feeling of self-betrayal. It is a feeling that is important to remember so that we don’t continue to do it. 

You know how awful it feels to be let down, but it is agonizing when you are the one who has done it. Remember that feeling. 

You’ve probably told yourself, “Next time I’ll do this.” Sometimes, there are no more steps and waiting to feel “ready”. Sometimes, you just have to go. 

So when another opportunity comes, tell yourself, “This time is the next time.” Take action.

The “Deserve” Myth: Unpacking a Harmful Word

As most of you know, as I create my art, I learn more about myself. What I’m learning today? I no longer like to use the word “Deserve”.

My current piece encouraging deep thoughts.

As I walk on my healing path, I realize words are being erased from my vocabulary. If they are not erased, then I find them hard to use. It doesn’t fit who I am today.

The first words that were erased? “Good” and “bad”. Now, I’m not saying I don’t use the words “good and bad” to describe how tasteful a dish is or how amazing a movie is. But, not for human behavior, actions, or mental and emotional states. I’ve come to realize just how complex life, energy, the world, and humans are.

So, to simply label something as good or bad just seemed wrong. There’s much more to humans and life than those words. There’s more to our experiences in life. There’s trauma, pain, and fear. There’s joy, excitement, and love. So how can we simply slap on “bad or good” to a certain action that has many roots??

The new word that is trying to erase itself from my vocabulary? Deserve. When I was experiencing pain mentally, emotionally or physically, I would shout to the heavens, “I’m a good person. I don’t deserve this. I deserve better than this.” But what is the word deserve?

Deserve is when we do or show something that we’re worthy of, whether it’s punishment or praise. We’re all worthy of love, intimacy, understanding, and empathy. But, we all don’t experience that at times. We’re all worthy of punishment for an action that we have just partaken in. Yet not all of us experience that.

I noticed it doesn’t stop us from using this word as if the rules and laws of the universe are going to bend for us. Energy reacts to energy. Sometimes, growth, understanding, and lessons desperately need to take place.

I’m learning that even when I believe and act with knowing my worth, I can still receive specific energy that makes me question, “why is this happening? I’m a good person. I deserve more”. Sometimes, there are bigger things at work. Life does not revolve around me. The laws won’t bend my way, at least not all the time.

It’s also important to understand that there is an opportunity to learn a lesson and gain understanding in every situation. Maybe this situation is offering wisdom to help me be where I need to be.

So how do we step away from the word deserve? Go within to understand your shadows and triggers and love yourself. After doing this myself (many times), I find gratitude and understanding in every situation that I’m in. I gain understanding of the lessons in those moments.

You begin to have an understanding of your place within it. Within this, you experience calmness, stillness, peace, and gratitude. 

Nothing is personal. Instead, it simply holds up a mirror for us to challenge what we see in ourselves. There are many opportunities to grow and be where you need to be. Sometimes (almost all the time) the road will not look how you’ve imagined. You must be open. 

My next post will have the results of this drawing and how it encouraged me to disconnect from everything, and my identities, and take a leap into the void.

Stagnation and Transitions: Your Greatest Enemy or Your Secret Weapon?

Transitions in life can sometimes be tougher than being within an emotional and stagnant stage. At least with the stagnant stage, you know what’s to come. You know what to expect emotionally and even physically. Sometimes you have the actions memorized or calculated and you gain a sense of safety.

Transitions offer mystery, new pathways, and the unknown. Your feet are walking a path it is not accustomed to. Even the greatest earthbender, Toph, who is blind, has had moments where she could not feel or “see” what’s in front of her. So, she had to adjust, and trust herself and others around her, to get her through. 

With life transitions, you see the unknown and become intimidated. This is where you’ve probably paused and stared at the path you wish to be on. Or you’ve turned around altogether and continued your life as if you were never shown this life-changing opportunity. Of course, there’s understanding there. There’s comfort, familiarity, and safety. But, there is also a sense of unhappiness, sadness, stagnation, and vagueness. This soon leads to depression, anger, and anxiety which then leads to physical discomfort.

The transition does offer the unknown and mystery, but this leads to exploring, loving, and establishing the self. That then leads to happiness, flow, understanding, and clarity. You’ll then experience changes within you emotionally and physically. Transitions and healing are not just rainbows and butterflies, I think that is why most avoid it. I can say, that it is worth it. You are worth it. 

Just as Toph is surrounded by help, so are you. Yes, yes I am using an Avatar the Last Airbender reference.

Look around you, find the people or things you can count on. If you do not have them, start collecting therapists, social clubs, mentors, etc.

Finding Light in the Shadows: Ways to Understand Self & Heal

We are magicians (poor ones) who fake ourselves into believing what was once a problem is no longer because we’ve buried it so deep that we can’t see it.

There are periods in our lives when we begin to live on autopilot. Routine can be good and healthy, but some of us get sucked so deeply into that routine that we lose ourselves.

We forget what makes us happy. Or, maybe what made us feel joy no longer brings that emotion. Somewhere along the way, we forgot to say “What about me? What would I like to do? What makes me happy?”

Unfortunately, staying in this energy brings stagnation in many ways – mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Once the stagnation settles in those areas, we see it physically. We are magicians (poor ones) who fake ourselves into believing what was once a problem is no longer because we’ve buried it so deep that we can’t see it.

I say we are poor magicians because our bodies keep the score. Wherever you’ve buried what you try to hide, your body will feel it and remind you it’s there.

Maybe when you find that place that makes you happy, you think “Ah, I have found my mecca.”

But, you forget that you’re human and growing every day. Your body isn’t the only thing growing; your mind and spirit are also. What happens when you grow? Change happens.

You grow into new things, create new passions, and crave new experiences. As long as your body’s cues are respected, you should be able to adjust to the change your soul is asking for.

Is Your “Self” a Shelf? Why We Play Small & Unexpected Ways to Empower The Self Now

If you hear the question, “What stops you from being your true self?” what would your answer be? Most people will say, “I fear being myself because I may fail myself”, or “If I am myself then I turn my back on the ones who need me”. My favorite, “I already am” – I would say that with the feeling of a plum pit in my throat because I knew I was lying. 

“Be your authentic self”. When those words are heard, most people feel heightened anxiety. But, why? Being your authentic self can introduce calmness and healing into your life. However, empowering the self is not that simple and we all know it – this is why it induces anxiety. We understand there are some things you will need to release and some new things you will need to introduce – this is called Change. Change is one of the main things humans fear but we lie and say we welcome it while clinging to the fantasy of control.

You understand who you are. Once you agree to listen to it, your inner voice will get louder and louder to the point you have no choice but to look at yourself and your environment.

Que the anxiety and fear. Looking at ourselves means looking at why we tell ourselves we are happy if we are not. It means understanding why we stay in a space that brings us stress. When we look at those things, there is no way we can continue to lie to ourselves – we see the truth, and it is LOUD. Now that you awaken yourself to your stagnation, there’s no more ignoring and that can be terrifying.

Once you awaken to yourself, you look at your environment and the company you keep.

You begin to look at those family members who may have caused you pain all these years. You start looking at the toxic job or relationship you’re in. Then you realize, “My authentic self cannot thrive in such conditions!” Que Ryan Gosling.

This can all feel like a lot. This work is best done in stages by taking one small step at a time (shared below) instead of running up the whole staircase. This blog is not to scare you and stop you from wanting yourself. It is actually to do the opposite – encourage you to grasp yourself by seeing where your fears lie. Understanding what scares you will give you the little confidence to take the next step in conquering them.

“So, why do I stay knowing this brings stagnation?”

The simple answer for most? We want to stay. Not that we enjoy stagnation or pain, but we are frozen in fear. We find comfort in the discomfort. Becoming your authentic self also means practicing accountability. If I set up a haunted house for Halloween, I would hang the words “Change” and “Accountability” everywhere.

You will have to exercise your legs, stand, and step away from the shadows of co-dependency. You will leave behind the identities you created for yourself and the ones created for you. Maybe expressing your wounds (by engaging in relationships, situations, or arguments) is the only identity you understand. Perhaps chaos is familiar and comforting. 

Steps to Empowering The Self

  • Practice casting your voice if you make yourself small. Now, you don’t have to go screaming or anything like that. But, if something needs to be said, practice saying it. Start with the word, “No”.

So, why do you play small?

Simply put, because it means you can’t lie to yourself anymore. It means you don’t need someone to validate you – just yourself. It means releasing wound play. If we stay small, not much is expected of us – we don’t expect much from ourselves.

While these seem like tall tasks and scary ones, please never let someone tell you they are not doable. So many have achieved higher selves and started in the same energy you’re sitting in now. How to Prepare for a Psychic Art Reading

So you purchased a psychic reading, what’s next?

We’ve all had that initial thought after purchasing a new experience – “Great! But, what do I do next? How do I prepare?”

The answer is, Yes and No.

I know, I know. You’re probably thinking, “Great, Erica. You didn’t quite clear that up. You added more confusion.” But, hear me out. There’s not much preparation for a psychic reading. If you’ve taken the step to purchase a psychic reading, chances are you have thought about this for a while and, in turn, have done some preparation. However, preparing yourself even more by opening your mind, body, and spirit can still be nice.

Let’s start with the answer “No” – The most you need to do, is show up. You may have already purchased or booked your session, which means you may have settled your mind enough to be open to receiving informative and transformative messages. Opening your mind is the most important step. The more open you are to receive, the more you’ll understand and let the messages guide you.

Now, to the answer “Yes” – As I stated above, preparing yourself even more by opening your mind, body, and spirit is still nice. By opening these three things, you can understand your messages with more ease. How often have you read, heard, or seen something that didn’t make sense at the time, but after moments of clarity, the understanding hits you like a ton of bricks?

Well, connecting with yourself and opening yourself will help you understand those messages with more clarity. Now, this is not to say you’ll understand everything in that moment. Sometimes, some steps need to be taken first to understand the message. But arriving open to the experience, will allow those messages to come through.

How can you open yourself to this experience? Sit and breathe. As you take an inhale, bring attention to your body and notice any tense areas. As you exhale, release those tense areas – unclench your jaw and fist. Release Your eyebrows.

Say to yourself, “I am open to receiving. I am open to knowing. I am open to guidance. I am open.”

Say to the energy around you, “I am open to receiving your messages. I am open to your guidance.”

If you want to receive the messages and energy gently, make note of that when speaking to the energy around you.

How to Process after a Reading

I always tell people, the reading does not end just because my audio recording has ended. It is important to not only stay open so messages can continue to reach you, but it is important to process the information you just received.
